As I mentioned in my introduction "About Being You", I am very comfortable working with people from all backgrounds with various needs and reasons to come to counselling or psychotherapy.
What if I don't like my Therapist?
This is an important question. Counselling begins with the special relationship I have as the therapist with the person seeking help - You.
Confidentiality is critical and trust is essential for the therapeutic outcome.
I hope to provide a caring and nurturing environment.
It is a relationship with a purpose and given that people mostly come to see me in a state of raised anxiety and distress, then I must assume the purpose is usually to help You feel better; to help You to resolve Your problems; to make sense of something troubling You.
I will give You permission to speak freely and openly about Your feelings, thoughts, concerns and I will listen.
Together we can set goals and this is usually the beginning of Your therapeutic journey.
What will I get out of therapy?
I attempt to understand You and who You believe You "are" in the world and how You feel others may perceive You.
I attempt to view the world from Your shoes - Your "world". It is a journey into "self" and why I have called my work "Being You" .
You may learn about family patterns you had never thought of in turn, providing You with a greater insight as to why certain things may be happening to You at this point in time of your life.
You may feel more stable and empowered from the knowledge gained through Your journey with me.
You may be able to apply this knowledge and greater awareness with new found skills and techniques so as to deal with the issue more easily.
You may simply need the silence, the solitude and the space to feel whatever emotion overcomes you in the moment.
I will adapt my style accordingly to your needs rather than using a single type of approach.
